Happy Trails

Last weekend the weather was beautiful here and we enjoyed it thoroughly! We started off the weekend with a road race. We entered both kids, but at the start at the race, W did not feel like running. Guess I didn't prep him well enough that I was going to set him down in the middle of 50 excited kids, leave him all by himself, and tell him to run around a park while everyone is yelling. G1 had a great time though and we are really proud of how well she did. On the drive home, the hubby decided we should power rake the lawn so we swung by the rental store and loaded up the equipment for that doozy of a job. Nine lawn bags of grass bags later we now have a power raked lawn. The kids were thrilled with all the "hay" the machine made and had fun helping us rake it into piles. Next, G1 and I headed to a tea at our church. It was so nice and we both had a great time. Then we zipped off to a soccer game. Next came a huge highlight though...we visited the newly re-opened Ft. Hall replica. Ft. Hall was a major stopping point for pioneers who were travelling the Oregon Trail. Need I say more? There were pioneer activities and a train so everyone was happy. For the Nebraskans out there, it was kind of like a Stuhr Museum Railroad town main street, but on a very small scale.


W wasn't sure what to think when the kind lady slung a weasel skin around his neck and handed him a gun.


G1 has read the Little House on the Prairie series 4 times so she truly understands how important the covered wagon was to the pioneer set. I think seeing a wagon in person made quite the impact on her.

The school house was probably the kids favorite building. They could have played in there forever! There was even a little desk for the junior set. G2 was pretty excited to be sitting there like the big kids.

Dubs

Dubs is really having another growth spurt in the personality department. He loves to dress up and he is becoming much more assertive with his opinions. Although he still likes to stick pretty close to us and wants held A LOT, he is becoming very independent. His favorite word/question is "why?" and he likes to ask "what are you doing?" and he likes to ask both of these on a frequent and repetitive basis---here is a look at what 20 seconds with Dubs looks like....now just repeat this all day long---

Dubs: mommy, what are you doing?
Mommy: driving
Dubs: why?
Mommy: so you can go to the library.
Dubs: why?
Mommy: Because you like to go to the library and listen to stories and check out books.
Dubs: why?
Mommy: Because it is fun and you get to see your friends.
Dubs: oh.
....5 seconds and about 1/2 block later.....
Dubs: Mommy, what are you doing?

Dubs had the chance to go on a field trip to the hospital helicopter. He really liked it and talked about it a ton when we got home but I don't think he smiled the entire time we were there. He can be very serious when in new situations.

It has been impossible to get pics of this little man lately, but I captured a small smile a few weeks ago.

Dubs also got new glasses after an incident. Let's just say I had never seen a pair of glasses in such an odd shape. His new ones are a bit big, but he will (hopefully) have these for a year so we wanted to make sure he has room to grow.

Speaking of growing, the little man is doing just that. He finally up to a whopping 29lbs and is eating a much wider variety of foods which equals less Pediasure. He is doing fantastic at preschool this year. He has had an amazing teacher and continues to work with the speech therapist on a weekly basis. Such a fun little guy who is more fun to be around every day!

G2

I must say, G2 wins the award for the most exciting family member lately. He keeps us all busy laughing and trying to keep up with him. He has discovered he is a great climber and I'm terrified he is going to go head first off the play set.

G2 loves to eat...all the time. He has a great appetite and loves a wide variety of food. He has taken matters into his own hands and now loves to get into the pantry and then walk around with a box of food. I usually catch him pretty fast but man is he ever proud of himself. We tried to change the door knob so he couldn't get in. It did not work. It's hard to get too angry at him though when he gives me such a sweet little "Mama, I'm just hungry" look.

He loves trains just like his Big Brother.

His favorite song is "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." This isn't his best version, but it's the best I could get.

Did I mention he eats non-stop? He is overly obsessed with things being "hot" from his food to his bathwater.

He has combined his love of eating and climbing and this is his new favorite spot to hang out. Notice how his sweet compliant brother is sitting nicely in his chair....then I removed the baby from the table, went to the bathroom, and came back to this.....

G1

G1 has been busy lately....living in her pioneer world (We are going on one year of wearing a pioneer dress every. I think I should get some type of award for letting her express herself and use her imagination while her super cute Gymboree clothes are sitting in the closet unworn, with tags, and getting grown out of)

AND discussing with friends how she cannot wait for some summer weather

AND learing how to ride her bike. Now this takes a little explanation....G1 LOVES her scooter. So does her BFF. They were perfectly content to never learn to ride their bikes. Sooooo, the parents ganged up on them and forced them to learn to ride their bikes. Neither of them were too happy about the situation but now they are so excited that they have no training wheels.
Since the video, we have raised G1's bike seat and she is able to ride much more smoothly now.


She is also growing like a weed. I'm not used to seeing her in normal clothes (see above) so when we pulled out some of her light weight clothes to wear to school, I could really see how tall she has gotten! I would bet she has grown close to three inches since school started last fall, with most of the growth happening since Christmas!
