This past week-end, Grace & Brad went on a special "dad & me" camping trip. They headed up to Yellowstone Saturday morning for three days and two nights of camping. Last evening they arrived home and it sounds like they had a really really fun time. Not a lot of pictures to share from the weekend as they used our "nice" camera, which is film, to capture all the animals they saw. Animals included bison, elk, wolves, bears, and moose. Brad also said there was a chipmunk at the campsite which I would have been particularly found of (i have a soft spot for the little fellows....memories of estes park and peanuts i guess!) Not only did the campers see bears and wolves just once, but several times. This is also the second time Grace & Brad have spotted a moose. I'm pretty convinced I'm animal repellent.
Ms. Social ran into a friend from Utah and also met a new friend whom she informed Brad she would like to visit some day. The new kids lives in England.
Will was SO SO excited when he saw his Big Sis had arrived back home...he couldn't stop smiling and was smiling so big that he could barely make any noise. I think he found me a bit boring all weekend.....
What a special trip for Grace and for Brad too....this seems like the start of a tradition!

3 2/3 party
Rain, hail, thunder, lightning.....and a lot of friends make for one fun 3 2/3 birthday party!!!!! How did this party come about you may be wondering???? Well, when asked what her favorite summer memory was, Grace replied it was "thinking about having a summer birthday party." So we obliged and planned an outside party for the park. Mother Nature apparently heard Grace's requests to be a mermaid and we had some weather!!!! Although we did experience all the above mentioned weather scenarios, it was all pretty minor until the huge downpour right when we were getting ready to leave.
Grace and her friends did not seem to mind being a bit damp and quite a few of them actually seemed to enjoy getting to wear hats and raincoats and being allowed to have umbrella while playing at the park. Her face light up so brightly when everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and she got to blow her candle on her Little Mermaid cupcake out. She was having so much fun that she didn't even mind the "no gift" rule we imposed for this event. What great friends we and Grace have who helped make her 3 2/3 summer birthday party a success!!

Cloud Gazing
One of Grace's endearing hobbies is finding fun shapes in the clouds. Today she found a duck and a whale and two different fish. She gets so excited and it takes me forever to mow when I have to keep stopping to look at the different cloud shapes but it is a memory I know will be etched in my mind for a long time. Thanks Grandma D for introducing Grace to taking time to look up to the sky and imagine.

1st tooth!!!
After THREE weeks of irritability and being a grumpster, Will finally has a tiny little edge of his first tooth popping through as of Friday. Today it is more visible but his gums are still really red. When the tooth made it's appearance he just seemed to be in much better spirits!
Will is turning into this wild little man who loves to be LOUD! He continues to roll all over the house. Today when Brad was leaving the house Will rolled over to the door trying to follow his Daddy....pretty cute. His other interest is dog toys. If he does manage to get a hold of one and then we take it away....wowsers does he get angry!!

Camping
We spent some time in up in the Sawtooth's this weekend....what a beautiful place!!! Also cold...the nights were in the low 40's but the days were a beautiful 80ish. Even though we have a camper it is a "pop-up" so basically like a tent which equals not too warm! Since Will loves to scream at night while camping this means I get to be out of my warm sleeping bag hanging out with him in near freezing weather. Brad claims he was also awake but I did not see evidence of this...I was having many thoughts wondering how Brad keeps convincing me that I like to go camping from about 3am until 7am the first night. Then the sun rose, things started heating up, and yes, I remembered why I enjoy the great outdoors.
First off, we had a pretty awesome campsite that accomodated us really well...right next to the Salmon River. We could hear it flowing at night and it was so peaceful. We found out the next morning that we were also right next to a cow pasture as they awakened us (let me re-phrase...awakened everyone but Will & I) with their mooing! But cows aside, it was perfect. Olivia and Maisy were loving their own personal water dish and Olivia was swimming at her leisure. We also had our own personal hummingbird recreation area which was pretty cool. Have you ever felt a hummingbird fly right next to your head??? We can say we have!
The first day we took a 7 mile hike. Grace hiked about 2 miles all by herself. Will rode in the snugli with Mom and then in the backpack for the first time. Grace was so gracious in sharing her hiking gear and was excited to help load up her brother and click the snaps in place. The pups loved the hiking as well...Olivia probably hiked double what we did with all her sprinting around. The trail was by a stream so she was in and out of that the whole time. Her and Maisy were beat for the rest of the camping trip after only one hike!
Other highlights of the trip were Dad & Grace swimming in Redfish Lake. Grace politely asked that we find a warmer place to swim. She didn't think the frigid alpine water was so fun but still went two days in a row. We also took a trip to the hatchery which was very interesting. We saw what we believe was a Pelegrine falcon swoop down and get a fish...still investigating if that was really the bird but we're pretty sure. Another hike around Alturas Lake was fun with Grace hiking most of the way all by herself. Man she is growing up! Hiking with a 3 year old is definetly a slower pace and we stopped and looked at flowers, trees, animal footprints, and most importantly, wild animal poop.
I could go on and on about our trip....but in my opinion the most amazing thing was looking up at the stars at night and getting dizzy...there are so many and they are so vibrant. Cell phones and computers are great for staying in touch with friends and family but there is just something peaceful about being out where there is absolutely no technology....not even a cell phone signal.
